The right extent
See the planned line and surrounding area together. An area that covers the main drive but misses the approach or exit leaves a gap in your preparation.
Navra practical guide / Reviewed 5 October 2026
Prepare offline maps for UAE desert, mountain and camping trips in Navra Pro. Choose an area, finish the download and check your route without mobile data.
The practical fit
An offline map stores map data on your phone. It is separate from a GPX route: importing a line does not download the surrounding map, and saving a meeting point does not save an entire region.
For a Liwa crossing, Sweihan drive or Shawka outing, start with the area your lead actually intends to use. Include the meeting point, planned route and relevant exits rather than downloading only the section visible at one zoom level.
Navra downloads are tied to a map style. Prepare the view you plan to use and inspect it before departure. Changing the map style later can mean that a different download is needed.
What it solves
See the planned line and surrounding area together. An area that covers the main drive but misses the approach or exit leaves a gap in your preparation.
Choose the map style you want before downloading. Use Layers to inspect the available views; terrain and 3D views are Pro features.
Download while connected and inspect the offline area’s status. A queued or failed download is not a finished map.
Test the saved area on the phone you will carry. Confirm that the useful zoom levels, route and waypoints appear before leaving coverage.
Map preparation
Navra Pro offers offline map downloads, terrain and 3D views. The screenshot shows a terrain view; your own check should use the map style and area saved on your device.

How it fits
Open GPS and inspect your route or intended area. Identify the meeting point and exits with the organiser so the downloaded extent follows the plan.
Open Layers and choose the map style you intend to use. Leave enough phone storage and stay on a reliable connection for the download.
On the map, use Save and tap around the area. Review the displayed estimate and select Download this area. The Offline tool also opens the named offline-map areas available in the app.
Open Offline maps to review the download. If it fails, retry while connected. If the saved style differs from your chosen view, use Re-download instead of assuming the same tiles serve every style.
Before departure, turn mobile data and Wi-Fi off, reopen the area and inspect the route at useful zoom levels. Confirm location permission and that your phone can obtain a GPS position.
When the route or area changes, review the download again. Restore connectivity for updates and sharing, and keep your backup navigation information available.
Straight answers
Offline map downloads are a Navra Pro feature. The core app is free; current subscription options and local prices are shown in the app and official stores.
No. A GPX file provides route, track or waypoint information. Download the surrounding map area separately with Navra Pro before leaving coverage.
Live position updates require an internet connection. A downloaded map and your own GPS position can still be useful, but other drivers’ live positions cannot update without connectivity.
Offline map data is specific to the downloaded style and area. Check the chosen style in Offline maps and download the intended view while connected.
A download saves map data, not a guarantee of current conditions or permission to enter. Compare it with the current route briefing, access information and terrain.
Get Navra for iPhone or Android. Use Navra Pro to download the intended map areas, then check them before departure.
